World Market Center Las Vegas is showing its support of City of Hope’s “Be the Match” bone marrow donor program during the September Las Vegas Market.
From Monday through Thursday, September 14-17, at World Market Center Las Vegas, City of Hope will have an area set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day outside of the World Forum on the 16th floor of Building B. During those hours market attendees can stop by the area to be educated about the Be the Match program and why it’s important. Attendees will have the option to register as potential marrow donors and to make donations to the City of Hope. Each year thousands of children and adults benefit from bone marrow transplants, but many others never find matches.
Jill Kendall, program director of the Be the Match program for City of Hope says, “Our goal is to reach out to the community and increase the number of registrations.” Joining is very simple and takes just 15-20 minutes. All that’s needed is to fill out a form, swipe cotton swabs inside your mouth to collect cells and put the samples in an envelope, which will be sent to the laboratory. Kendall also said, “We are also there to talk to attendees interested in hosting a marrow drive in their local communities. Las Vegas Market is a great opportunity for us to make connections so we can reach a broader audience and register potential marrow donors on-site.” Donations will also be accepted.
As an additional show of support to City of Hope, World Market Center Las Vegas is pairing the September 15 Business Survival Series presentation by Howard Putnam with a "power lunch" on a first come, first served basis to all Market attendees. There is a $10 suggested admission at the door with proceeds benefiting City of Hope. The visionary business leader will deliver his seminar on September, 15 at 12 p.m. in the WorldView, Building B, 16th floor. Throughout his career Putnam has not only survived but thrived by taking advantage of the opportunities for change and transformation that turbulent times offer. Putnam's presentation will offer practical and simple steps to your goals. As the former chief executive officer of the highly-successful Southwest Airlines, Putnam led the fledgling carrier through airline deregulation and the development and implementation of the company vision that has guided Southwest to a position of industry prestige, while also tripling the airline's size and profits. His presentation topics focus on leadership, innovation, change, people and ethics. Seating is limited. RSVP to powerlunch@lasvegasmarket.com.
