Designer to share stories, examples and colorful insights July 31 In Las Vegas
World Market Center Las Vegas is honoring internationally acclaimed designer Larry Laslo, owner of LL Designs, as a Design Icon during the Summer 2008 Las Vegas Market held July 28 – Aug. 1, 2008.
In the exclusive Design Icon Lecture series, renowned designers share their stories and experiences in order to inspire future designers. Mr. Laslo is the second Design Icon to receive this prestigious award, the first being Vladmir Kagan at the previous Winter Las Vegas Market.
Mr. Laslo will give a presentation accompanied by images of his legendary interiors on Thursday, July 31 at 2:30 p.m. in Seminar Room C-316 at the World Market Center’s Building C, 455 South Grand Central Parkway in Las Vegas during the Summer Market. Immediately following the Design Icon lecture, attendees are invited to a reception from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. held in Robert Allen| Beacon Hill’s new showroom (Suite C-101 of Building C) where Mr. Laslo’s newest fabric and trim collections for Robert Allen will be on display.
“I’m happy to be a member of any club that includes Vladimir Kagan,” said Mr.Laslo, who added “I’m deeply honored to be selected to receive this distinguished industry award.”
Mr. Laslo will discuss highlights of his life as a designer, the sources of his inspiration and the business of design. Attendees can expect an entertaining presentation as he is as well known for his sharp wit, colorful stories as for his impeccable designs. The talk will cover his views on the purpose and evolution of design as well.
Mr. Laslo will also share anecdotes about his relationships with clients, in addition to stories of his projects in New York City, Mexico City, Aspen, Beverly Hills and the Hamptons. “The families I work for become my family. I am doing third and fourth houses for them.” He joked, “The first house is hard; just like the first marriage.”
Laslo said he hopes those who attend his talk will leave with pearls of wisdom and inspiration, “Beauty is skin deep, but ugly goes straight to the bone,” says Laslo. Many design students are expected to attend the talk, and Laslo said he is always perfectly candid with design students to give them a realistic picture of their chosen career path. The presentation will provide insight into the design philosophy of this extraordinarily successful designer, whose roots as an artist have informed his creative approach to interiors. Mr. Laslo takes his inspiration from the world around him and translates these surroundings into a new definition of “livable contemporary.” In his lexicon, contemporary means “timeless.”
Multi-talented, multi-faceted and multi-directional, Mr. Laslo will also cover how he has promoted himself and his work over the years. He is one of the foremost product designers in the world and has created furniture collections for John Widdicomb, Ferguson Copeland and Directional; china for Mikasa and Royal Limoges; lighting for Frederick Cooper; art for Rosenbaum and pottery for Haeger to name just a few of his product lines.
The one-of-a-kind homes he has designed throughout the country and around the world have graced the editorial pages of Architectural Digest, the New York Times, House & Garden, Vogue, Elle Décor, Vanity Fair, Town & Country, Veranda and W. He is perhaps best-known for two of his retail design projects in New York City, the interior design of Takashimaya’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue and the highly regarded look and feel of Bergdorf Goodman.
“Larry Laslo Designs for Robert Allen,” the upholstery and window fabric collections he debuted in 2007 featuring more than 250 fabrics, are available exclusively at Robert Allen | Beacon Hill showrooms. His newest fabric and trim collections for Robert Allen are being introduced during Las Vegas Market at Robert Allen | Beacon Hill’s new showroom in the Las Vegas Design Center. Of World Market Center Las Vegas, Laslo predicts, “It’s going to be where it’s all at in the future and I’m delighted to be a part of it from the beginning.”
